Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination

The book Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination was well researched and well written by Dugard and O’Reilly. I was riveted to the story from start to finish. To say that I watched John Wilkes Booth’s actions with fascination is an understatement. I kept looking at his actions and wondering if this or that  was not done or if Mike O’Laughlen had spoken up then the assassination would have been avoided.
Lincoln’s own fascination with his death was also of great insight in the book. His dream about someone in the White House dying and there being weeping going on and he was running around and trying to find the source was inline with his not really taking big steps in protecting himself from assassins. He did not think it was his death he was witnessing.
To find out that his cronies Herold, Atzerodt and Powell were also to assassinate other dignitaries was new to me. John Wilkes Booth did not give up on his views even when the South fell. This book read like a story book and not a history book. Great job on the part of the authors.
